What do you know, I got it right this time. I should have made a bet on it, just like I should have expected the token phrases from every Idol season: “Unprecedented numbers” and “best season ever.” My advice to current contestants would be to keep in mind that next year they’ll be saying that about someone else.
Speaking of which, two of the newest Idol has-beens, Michael Johns and Carly Smithson surprised me by an awkward appearance on the show. I’ve never seen idols come back and perform who weren’t in the top 4. Given the weirdness of their duet, they may not ever again. Man, isn’t there one of the former idols who can dance? Anyone? I can’t remember. Actually, now that I think about it, Nikko Smith from season 4 was good.
Certainly no one so far from this season is gonna be the next James Brown. Watching the song and dance numbers is almost as embarrassing as being a part of them. Certainly they can find a less demeaning time-killer for the contestants.
Anyway, the show was kind of a bummer with so little good news to go around. We had the same format for semi-finals my season but I can’t remember if we drew it out like this… I want to say we did. I remember sitting on the couch listening to people’s performances being evaluated and calculating whether or not I needed to brace myself for a rejection. I ended up 3rd that night, but they were only looking for two people. I went home for the next week and then got a call to come back for the wild card round.
I think Anoop and Tatiana will be back. Maybe Rickey Braddy.
