This is my favorite place to eat in New York. I think this picture (taken by good pal Erica Erickson) is a Nathan's in Manhatten, but the best place to eat a Nathan's hot dog is at the original location on Coney Island.
For those of you who may not know, Nathan's is where the International Hot Dog Eating Competition takes place every 4th of July.
I like both the regular hot dog with the crinkly fries (which they serve with a little tiny fork). I would also recommend the corn dog, if you're feeling like changing it up. Either way, Nathan's is best eaten on a very warm summer's day, with lots of lemonade, preferably while wearing your bathing suit.
My second favorite place is the Grey Dog. The haunt of village hipsters, it's located in Manhattan's West Village, though, there is now a 2nd location on Broadway just past Union Square. The only thing I've ever gotten is the Cobb salad, which is bonkers good. They also have these homemade cobblers which, let's be honest, you don't find just anywhere. The lights are low and the music is cool. This is Jon and a 2nd person at the aforementioned Grey Dog.
As for 3rd position and onward, that's anyone's guess.
